Job Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Vibration Test Technician to join our facility in Redmond, WA. In this role, the "Vibration Tech" sets up and operates Vibration Controllers and Vibration shaker tables and related equipment for purpose of vibration testing liquid propellant rocket engines and other devices.

Essential Functions

Working under general supervision:

10% - Translates vibration test requirements (random, sine) into a correct execution method file for the Spectral Dynamics Jaguar, and Vibration Research VR9500, vibration controllers.

10% - Mounts test article into vibration fixture and installs accelerometers onto test article, requiring precision hand work.

15% - Mounts vibration fixtures to shaker table or shaker head. Completes cabling and connections of accelerometers. Reconfigures fixture and table assembly for all table or shaker head axes.

40% - Performs vibration testing of rocket engines, operating Jaguar or VR9500 vibration controller, and monitoring live data as test progresses. Produces data package when test complete.

25% - Performs routine maintenance and repairs on the vibration shaker equipment and supporting facility equipment such as: cooling tower, pumps, shop air, nitrogen service, etc. Also tracks calibration due dates of tools and electronic equipment.

Requirements

Requires an Associate's degree in a related discipline and one (1) year of experience in a subsequent technical training or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Candidates should possess a sound fundamental understanding of test practices, to include: electronics, instrumentation, attention to detail, which would result in quick ability to learn the skill of conducting vibration tests. Experience with UNHOLTZ-DICKIE 1000 Vibration System (or similar vibration table) desired and familiarity with vibration fixturing design basics. Must understand fundamentals of vibration and shock testing and be experienced in following detailed test procedures.

The individual selected will receive on-job-training with a senior Vibration Technician and may be sent offsite (travel required) for formal vibration technology training for class taking up to 5 days during the first year of employment.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position is expected to work a weekend shift to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:
24.52 - 33.97 per hour
