Systems Mechanical Engineer

This role reports to the Systems Engineer Manager and will work and collaborate as an integral part of a tight-knit engineering team. Other team members include: Project Manager, Project Engineering and Instrument and Controls Engineer, Systems Engineer and our Design and Drafting team.

To understand and perform systems-level design of all turbo expander support systems and required process equipment. To provide engineering information and answers to project management, sales, manufacturing, service groups and suppliers. To actively engage in continually improving the state of turbo expander systems designs to simplify, reduce cost, while retaining required performance. To document deigns and decisions in a simple and understandable manner.

The compensation (range) for this position is $87,360 to $123,427 annually depending on skill. Atlas Copco Mafi-Trench Company LLC pays based on skills and not job seniority. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus. Are you a problem solver with great communication skills who is looking to build a career as a Systems Engineer with a leading innovator of Turbo Expander technology? In this role, you will be a key member of a small team that creates custom engineered solutions in the exciting energy industry.

What you will own & improve:

  1. Engineering Design:You will be the sole Mechanical Engineer on a custom designed turbo expander package. Review and interpret customer specifications to create manufacturing drawings, material lists and other documentation for the customer. You will design machine skids, reservoirs and specify coolers, heaters, pumps, motors, filters, and valves.
  2. Technical Discussions:You will lead technical discussions with the customer and suppliers to find solutions to the project's requirements.
  3. Continuous Improvement:You will create ways to improve engineering process by reducing design cycle time and/or reduce errors while keeping manufacturability in mind.

What you already know:

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or similar engineering field or equivalent skill set and work experience
  2. Understand the properties of fluid control systems as they apply to lube oil and seal gas systems.
  3. General Understanding of API/ASME/ANSI standards.
  4. Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Solidworks.
  5. Ability to maintain documentation for design calculations and component selection.
  6. General understanding of shop fabrication practices; machining, welding, and bending.

How Success is measured:

  1. Completion of projects on time and under budget.
  2. Completion percentage of SCRUM tasks.
  3. Improvement projects of engineering and manufacturing processes.

    What you will learn (if you don't know already):

    1. SCRUM process to accomplish tasks within a team.
    2. PLM and ERP systems (Enovia and SAP)
    3. Stay up to date on the latest components used in turbo expander support systems.
    4. Perform systems functional tests in front of inspectors and customers.

    Qualification Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field per agreement.
    • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills including communication, self-starter, positive make-happen attitude, handling multiple tasks, team player
    • Able to learn to self-correct and self-improve.
    • Willing to take responsibility for assignments and bring them to simple, effective conclusions.

    Principal Responsibilities:

    • Obtain knowledge in API/ASME/ANSI standards as applicable to engineering function.
    • Ability to review, interpret and design to customer specifications.
    • Develop understanding of fluid control systems as they apply to lube oil and seal gas supply requirements.
    • Obtain knowledge of components available in the marketplace that could be used in turbo expander support systems.
    • Specify system level components.
    • Develop understanding of shop fabrication practices. Aide fabrication personnel in technical troubleshooting and issue resolution.
    • Communicate with drafting. Read, interact with, and update 3-D models and 2-D drawings as required.
    • Support technical meetings with customers and suppliers. Provide accurate technical answers to engineering issues.
    • Maintain up to date documentation on all responsible projects.
    • Follow all applicable company procedures and work instructions.
    • Develop understanding in Mechanical Systems Engineering Process.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Working Conditions - Office and Manufacturing environment
    • Essential Physical Tasks - ability to stand and squat to evaluate parts. Ability to lift/carry 15 lbs.
    • Occasional travel domestic or international
