Come join the fast-growing Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group at HDR. BES provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for a wide variety of building projects that include public, municipal, private, and Federal project types both locally as well as across the region and globally. This multidisciplinary team consists of: civil engineers who focus on site layout and grading; structural engineers with emphasis on building support systems (concrete, steel, mass timber, etc.); mechanical engineers concentrating on both wet (piping/plumbing design) and dry (HVAC) building systems and electrical engineers and instrumentation and controls engineers directing design on high, medium and low voltage systems (power distribution, lighting, communication and systems). You have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of building types ranging from technology, aerospace, commercial, industrial and institutional facilities to data centers and highly specialized facilities in the water, wastewater and power delivery sectors.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Structural Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Plan, direct and monitor all structural aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with other Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines
  • Work with the Business/Accounting Managers, Project Controllers or Company Controllers and Department Manager or Managing Principal for project reviews
  • Candidate will be expected to maintain a high level of industry involvement, continual professional networking, and representation of HDR at meetings, conferences, and industry events.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years structural engineering experience as it relates to building design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Proficiency with finite element structural design software such as STAAD PRO, RAM Structural Systems, RAM Elements, SAFE, RISA etc., as well as seismic and wind requirements of International Building Code and ASCE-7.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Degree is highly preferred.
  • SE highly preferred.
  • Revit Structural experience preferred.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
  • Experience with ASCE 41 seismic retrofit design
  • Experience with ACI 350 structures
  • Experience with structural condition assessment, repair, and rehabilitation
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED

The expected compensation range for this position is $153,468 - $180,550 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
